“As long as you’re Breathing there’s still hope.”
- Carolee Dean
Right now you might be feeling lost. You’re not sure how to deal with the overwhelming anxiety, sadness, and frustration about what’s happening. At times you think “Why is this happening? What’s wrong with me? Will this feeling ever go away?” All of the tasks you used to manage so easily are suddenly too heavy to carry;
You don’t have to do it alone!
I’m Alex, and I help people who are feeling just like you.
I believe in building a supportive and encouraging space for my clients to process, heal and grow. I take a client-centered approach in therapy, where I create an individualized plan for every client focused on meeting their specific goals. I am passionate about empowering and enhancing people’s quality of life and helping them know they are loved, seen, and accepted.
Many of today’s solutions for weight loss and body image disturbances include fad diets, intense workout regimens and plastic surgery to fit the “body ideal” society has created. This often leads clients to feel more disconnected from their body and increases feelings of failure and shame. In our work together I help you re-establish a healthy relationship with food, exercise, and self-image, so that you don’t have to continually be stressing over what to eat or what to wear.
As for emotional distress and grief, culture has promoted the message that showing emotions is a sign of “weakness” and needs to be suppressed. Time limits on how long someone “should” feel a certain way can dismiss the complexities of loss and pressure individuals to move on prematurely. Rather than avoiding painful emotions, I provide space to process them and move towards healing and growth at your own pace. It’s ok to not be ok – but you don’t need to stay there.
Therapy with me isn’t all sitting & talking.
Rather than just talking through a problem over and over. We’ll work on real, practical skills that you can put into action immediately in your day-to-day life so you can start feeling better fast!
I am dedicated to walking alongside people to bring hope and healing back into their lives.
My training as a licensed professional counselor means I have the expertise you need and deserve to heal from past and current experiences. But in reality, most people want to work with someone who understands and “gets” what they are going through.
I get it because I’ve experienced past painful experiences that impacted my own body-image, eating habits, and emotional overwhelm. Those events taught me unhelpful ways to view myself, others, and the world - and held me back from the meaningful relationships and joy I deeply craved.
I know that sometimes it just feels like you are trapped in an endless cycle. So, when we work together, you won’t just be getting a trained therapist. You’ll get someone who truly understands what you’re going through and regain a sense of hope and healing.
Guiding Principles of Breathing Hope
Client-Centered
Because I believe you know yourself best, I allow you to take the lead. I follow my client’s intuition about what they need, and what is working.
Non-judgmental
Clients have shared that they’ve found me to be relatable, easy to talk to, and a non-judgmental source of comfort throughout our work together.
Trust
Trust is such an important aspect in any relationship. I aim to help clients rebuild a sense of trust in themselves and develop trust with me along the way. This includes upholding the confidential nature of our work together.
Safety
Feeling safe creates a foundation for trust, vulnerability, and true healing. I prioritize creating a safe environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment or harm.
